Prints

I am a fan of the contemporary Sussex print-making scene, and it is fun to operate as an art gallery too. It has been really interesting to curate a collection of work for the shop from the artists represented here. I love the distinctive takes on the medium, and the different ways that have been found to match subject matter with technique. So whilst Lynda Durrant and Sorrell Kinley have each developed their own bold graphic styles with linoprint, Adele Scantlebury and Helen Brown work with wood cuts, which are then often tinted. Different again are the intricate citrus wood works by Keith Pettit with their astonishing bird's - eye and worm's - eye points of view! Finally, Ashley Hutchinson prints onto hand embossed cotton paper, the subtle background image reflecting the print image itself. A central theme at Skylark has always been the local (down, weald and coast) landscape and it's natural flora and fauna.
